The Future, Now
On Friday 4th April 2008, the children, staff, 'Friends' and Governors of Wedmore First School launched 'The Future, Now' appeal, with the objective of raising £60,000 over the next two years for Phase 1 of the rebuilding and upgrading of the school's buildings and facilities.
One of the key messages delivered to the media and guests at the launch was that we need to address the perception that our school is fully funded, wealthy, and privileged. In fact our statutory funding will be 12% less this year than last.
To bring a fresh and original approach to our fundraising we have developed a number of new and innovative fund raising partnerships with local businesses. We are also updating this website in order to take full advantage of the very latest 'etailing' funding opportunities. These will all continue to be expanded over the next few months. (See the Amazon link on the home page - shop via this link and you will be raising funds for the school through your purchases).
A Grants Committe has also been formed. This meets every six weeks to initiate and progress a growing number of grant applications.
Please be assured that we are fully committed to providing the best possible educational experience and environment for our children and we will be working very hard to ensure that the current high standards are maintained now, and in the future.
But we need you to get involved, please contact the appeal team if you have some time, energy or ideas that will help us achieve that common goal.
We have a dedicated email address at: thefuturenow@educ.somerset.gov.uk or phone the school on 01934 712643.
Many thanks,
Jackie Hipwell (Headteacher)
Mal Johnson (Governor)
Richard Keen (Friends Co-Chairman)
