Green Club Meeting 06.02.08
This week the Green Club met to discuss the planting of trees in the new Wedmore Community Woodland this weekend. Wedmore Green Group are looking for volunteers of all ages to come along in wellies with a spade to help plant the second lot of 120 trees this weekend from 10:00am - 4:00pm on Saturday and Sunday. The members went back to their classes to feed back this information to their class, and on Friday, Rob Richley from Wedmore Green Group came in to assembly to tell us all about it.
Green Club Meeting 13.12.07
This week Green Club made Christmas gift tags by recycling last year's Christmas cards. We all made some fantastic tags using zig-zag scissors and the used cards that were brought in by Patrick, Emma and Abi. We also discussed re-using plastic bags when shopping, as Wedmore Green Club are working with Wedmore traders to try to go 'plastic bag free' next year. Finally, Mr Buck, our new school handiman is going to help the Green Club with a new vegetable garden in the spring. Everyone was very enthusiastic about this.
Here are some of our tags

Green Club Meeting 04.07.07
Well at long last we harvested our potatoes. The closing date for entry to the Potato Competition is 9th July, so fingers crossed that we have produced enough to win a prize! Everyone in the club had a hand in digging out the potatoes from the pot and we took them inside to weigh them. The final yield was a huge 900g. Every member of the club had a couple of potatoes to take back to show their class - and to take home to eat for tea. I bet they were yummy!
Green Club Meeting 20.06.07
This week we were very lucky to have another interesting visit from Rob Richley of Wedmore Green Club. Last time he tipped a bag of rubbish all over Badger classroom floor - this time he brougt some poo with him! Whatever next?!!! Actually, Rob was talking about renewable fuel, and animal dung is used in various parts of the world as a fuel. Once it is dry it can be burned and is very much renewable. The club members thought up lots of other renewable fuels, such as wood, the sun and the wind. Rob talked about being careful with energy use and gave the club members stickers to remind people to turn off lights, turn off TVs, and to close doors and windows. He also gave everyone recycled pens and pencils - it was like Christmas! Finally, Rob talked about the Community Wood that is going to be developed a short walk from the village centre and showed a picture of what it looks like now. The club members have been invited to think up a name for the wood, perhaps using words relevant to the history of Wedmore. Hopefully, we shall be able to go along to the planting when this takes place in the autumn. Thank you, Rob, once again for your interesting visit. We do hope you'll be able to visit us another time.
Green Club Potato Competition Update 10.05.07
See how big our potato plants are now! They are now living outside Badger classroom and are watered regularly by Regan and Stan.
Green Club Meeting 25.04.07
This week the Green Club were very lucky to have the help of our very own garden expert, Daisy's mum, Jane. All 12 members of the club came along and planted out the seeds in seed trays with great care. Stan then watered them all very carefully. They now have pride of place on several classroom windowsills as we wait for signs of growth. Later on in the term, we shall be planting our new seedlings outside in the school vegetable patch. Thank you very much, Jane, for your help - it was a lot of fun!
Green Club Meeting 29.03.07
The club met to check progress of the potatoes. Mrs Hodgetts is looking after them during the holidays - here is a picture of them on 31st March - just look at those sprouting leaves!
After half term we shall be planting some seeds (that were kindly donated to the school, and given to us by Mandy in the kitchen). We hope to grow lots of vegetables that we shall plant out in the school vegetable plots and may even sell at the Friends' cake stalls.
Green Club Meeting 07.03.07
This week we planted our seed potatoes for the national potato growing competition! The potatoes have been 'chitting' in an egg box for a couple of weeks and today Mrs Dawes took 8 members of the club outside to do the planting. This involved some rather wet mud and lots of enthusiasm. The pots are now sitting in Badger classroom as we await some signs of sprouting! Green Club Meeting 31.1.07
Our local environmental expert, Rob Richley, from Wedmore Green Club, visited our Green Club in school to talk about... rubbish! He started off by emptying a bag of rubbish all over the classroom floor (it was clean and washed thank goodness) and the children separated it out into 6 different types of recyclable items. He then discussed how to re-use other items that cannot be recycled, and the children came up with some excellent ideas. The club members are now designing posters to be put up around the village to encourage everyone to use the new plastic recycling skip in the sports field car park. Thanks Rob for a fun and informative session.
Green Club Meeting 29.11.06
We held a competition to design a poster to go in each classroom to remind us to turn off the lights. We had some stunning designs.
This was the winning poster of the Green Club competition,
chosen by a panel of four teachers.
Well done, Amy from Woodpecker class!
